Kiwi Kids in foster care are not offered stability

  • 26% of children in foster care moved more than 3 times in the past 12 months
     
  • Statistics show that of chdn in care to 18 years, many are experiencing 20 placements
     
  • Multiple placements are associated with worst outcomes for children
     
  • 47% of Kiwi Kids placed back home are re-allocated to a foster home again

Kiwi Kids - Foster Care procedure

  • Step 1: Family support through home assessment; and/or
     
  • Step 2: CYF's Emergency housing (full to capacity all year) or short term placement; and/or
     
  • Step 3: Residential family foster care (Temp 28 - 56 days) and/or;
     
  • Step 4: Return to home for more data gathering
     
  • (47% of cases are returned to care & protection)
     
  • Step 5: If abuse continues back to another residential foster care family (renewable 6mthly 0-7yrs & annually 8-12yrs)
     
  • If they stay in foster care system multiple placements are often the norm
     
  • Often our children will never find a permanent home
